Is there hope for someone deeply addicted?
Absolutely. Nobody is too far gone! What we’ve learned over years of treating pornography addiction is that the level of intervention needs to match the level of addiction. So, if what you have been trying is not working, we will help you increase the level of intervention on your addiction.
I’m not sure that I can talk about this in front of someone!
Totally understandable. Pornography addiction thrives on shame and secrecy. We know it can be terrifying to show up for that first session! But, rest assured, we have pretty much heard it all and our therapists show up to that first session with compassion because we know how absolutely done you are with this addiction, and we just want to help.
Should I tell my partner about my pornography addiction?
Almost always, the answer is “yes!” However, there are some nuances to this and there is also a right way and many wrong ways to disclose your addiction. Our recommendation is that you get started with counseling and then we’ll work with you to figure out how to disclose in the least harmful way possible so that you can start living with integrity.
How long does therapy for porn addiction take?
We have a well-established protocol that we use, developed by our Clinical Director, Caleb Simonyi-Gindele. We find that recovery duration generally falls into one of three spans of time:
1) If you grew up in a relatively stable family and just got hooked on porn through curiosity or boredom, and it evolved into a mild coping mechanism: usually 8 to 12 sessions and you’re into a well-established sobriety.
2) If you had some childhood disturbances, nothing extreme, but perhaps your parents divorced or you lost a parent during childhood, or other dysfunction was obvious in the home: you should probably expect 4 to 6 months of weekly sessions to get into a well-established sobriety.
3) If you had some very tough moments during childhood such as abandonment, neglect, childhood sexual abuse, witnessing violence, etc. then you should probably expect 6 to 12 months of weekly session to really get to the roots of the trauma and find healing so that you can enjoy a solid sobriety.
How can online therapy for porn addiction help me stay accountable?
Online therapy for porn addiction offers convenient, confidential support with licensed therapists who help you set goals, track progress, and provide tools to manage cravings, making accountability easier no matter where you are.
What steps can I take to recover from porn addiction successfully?
To recover from porn addiction successfully, it’s important to seek professional support, develop healthy coping strategies, and create a personalized plan with your therapist to address triggers and build lasting change.
